Meló-Diák is Hungary's largest and oldest student jobs portal with 40,000 active members. To stay relevant for a new generation of students (Gen Z), both its brand identity and web application needed a refresh. It's currently in development.

Challenge

To improve the brand and digital presence to better connect with people.

How can a 40+ year-old company connect with a younger generation without losing what makes it unique?

The old site was overloaded with static content, with only a small section for news updates. The mobile app performed even worse, with a 1.3 rating on Google Play – signaling poor usability, low satisfaction and a digital experience that didn't reflect the company’s long-standing reliability.

Solution

Meló-Diák's revamped design is fresh and vibrate with the new generation of students while improved the clarity and tone without losing trust.

After researching and analyzing how students used the website, I collected and sorted out the insights, created a sitemap for the new version, along with user flows, including the membership registration process.

The branding also got a refresh. The signature Meló-Diák blue dominates the site, complemented by darker blue, yellow and orange accents. Playful visual elements, such as stickers, enhance the joyful interface. I designed the website in collaboration with a graphic designer, with a strong focus on people and reflecting their unique characteristics.

The redesign also calls for potentially less maintenance effort from the back-end as a scalable and responsive design system was created.

The web app fulfills Gen Z's needs by making job search and administration simpler, faster and more intuitive which save time and frustration. Meló-Diák has every opportunity to maintain its industry-leading status while setting trends among competitors, just as they did it from the start.
